I have written about fat loss in the past and the problems with trying to make it too difficult. One of my main goals as a coach is to make losing fat easier for people. Therefore, today I want to discuss a very simple and perhaps surprising tool that proves to be very effective for losing fat: a pen and notebook.
In this notebook, you need to be writing down everything you eat. If you want to make your chances of success even higher, then share these logs with a friend or colleague who knows about your goal. This way you are held accountable for your choices.
You may be thinking: How is this going to help me lose fat?
Well, you may be surprised. Often, we are completely ignorant to the foods we consume in a day. By writing down everything you eat you are more likely to think harder about the choices you are making. For example, if you are about to order a triple quarter pounder with fries you may reconsider knowing you are going to have to write it down.
You are also forced to reflect on decisions made prior. Like I said above, we often forget a lot of the foods that we eat in a day, but if you write these down, then you will always remember and are less likely to eat mindlessly.
Lastly, if the scale is not moving you can look over your log and see if you have been as consistent and solid with your eating as you should be.
I think making this log public is an even greater way to ensure solid and consistent food choices. It is embarrassing if you show your friend your food log and your breakfast was a doughnut and a large caramel latte and lunch was a snickers, a coke, and a cheeseburger. These are obviously bad choices if you are trying to lose fat.
Accountability is one of the best ways to stay on track toward a goal.
So, there you have it. If you want to lose fat, get a pen and notebook and begin recording everything you eat in a day. To make your success even more likely share the log with friends or colleagues who know about your goal.
It sounds easy, and it is, but you may be surprised at the difference it can make in your success.
