IFAST Intern Updates

written by Bill Hartman

I figured it would be cool to post updates regarding our former interns at IFAST.

Obviously, we’ve had some fantastic people walk through our doors, and it’s not always easy to keep up on what they’re doing.

I hope you enjoy the updates!

I moved back to Michigan at the beginning of November after running into a few speed bumps after graduating from college (3 days after my internship at I-FAST was finished) and got my personal training business, Coval Training and Performance, up and running.

Currently, I am working as an independent contractor out of a couple gyms in Ann Arbor. I also have some online clients in 3 different states and one international client (Switzerland). Business has been picking up, but I am not satisfied. I want to have enough clientele that I can lease my own space in Ann Arbor.

I did another internship after I-FAST with the Eastern Michigan University Athletic Performance staff. It was a great experience.

Up until this point in my life, I-FAST has been the greatest experience of my life. It will remain to be, until I open my own facility ? However, I don’t think a day goes by that I don’t mention I-FAST in some sort of way to people I interact with. I love that place and thank everyone who made it an awesome experience for me.

As you already know, I am currently working at Force Fitness and Performance in Bloomington, Indiana. Here, at Force, I am mainly in charge of working with the majority of the athletes and as well as working with some adult population. Some of my other duties include programming and assessing clientele.

I have been reading a lot of content on the lumbar and thoracic spines, while digging deeper into physiology. I have been super busy in working to put out my first product with Ryan Ketchum and Wil Fleming, which I am super excited about. Aside from this, I hope everyone is doing well and look forward to hearing what everyone else is up to.

I am currently working at a locally owned gym in Madison, Wisconsin. The majority of my business is one on one sessions along with a couple small group training sessions. I just recently finished the M.A.T Jumpstart courses, and I am excited to put this valuable information to use with my clients. My current focus is studying RTS (Resistance Training Specialists) material and I am enrolling in a series of classes called RTS123 in the coming months and then will proceed to go onto the master level courses.

I am grateful for my time at IFAST and am looking forward to continuing to build my business as I form my own thought process. If you want to get a hold of me here is my email: [email protected].

For the last year and a half, I have been building up my business training clients at a gym called Southridge Athletic Club in Milwaukee. I work with everything from fat loss to athletes to back pain, etc.

I have successfully built up a full time client base and continue to grow. It has been great watching a “normal” gym turn into an awesome and effective place to train. I am also currently going to school part time for massage therapy and plan on getting into active release techniques when I am finished with school. I am very excited to have the ability to combine what I do with strength and conditioning with effective soft tissue modalities.

When I’m not training clients or in school, I’m usually either reading, writing programs or training myself so I stay very busy. Outside of being extremely busy with all of this, I have done some writing, including a recent article for a local newspaper in Milwaukee. I plan on doing some more writing in the future and I have my own website at www.rosencutterultrafitness.com, which features a blog, training videos and plenty of other stuff.

Of course, I continue to stay on top of my own training and continue to give it my all week in and out. I absolutely love what I do and am very excited for the future. Opening my own facility is something that I plan on doing sooner than later and have some great ideas for what I want to do with that. Hope everybody is training hard over at IFAST!

Since completing my internship from IFAST things have been quite busy for me. I moved to Seattle, Washington, where I am attending medical school at Bastyr University where I will graduate with a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine allowing me to become a board-certified, state-licensed Naturopathic Doctor.

I am currently in the med school grinder studying a variety of topics including biochemistry, more anatomy (Bill would be so pleased), hydrotherapy, dissection (Bill would be so jealous!), and traditional Chinese medicine to name a few.

A Naturopathic physician is a generally a primary care doctor helping people with a wide variety of chronic conditions. I continue to personally train a handful of clients and still write online programs for a few others working primarily in the corrective exercise and weight loss realms. The knowledge and more importantly the EXPERIENCE I gained from IFAST was amazing. More than anything the internship allowed me to practice my skill as a coach/corrective exercise specialist, or whatever word one would like to use.

My dream for the future is to become an ND enabling me to guide people to take responsibility for their own health and well-being so that they may in turn achieve their dreams. Proper movement is a foundational principle in this process and with the knowledge I received from my time at IFAST I am tremendously more confident in helping people achieve their dreams.
