Cardio for Cardio? Or Fat Loss?

One of the questions we always get at IFAST is, “what do you do for cardio?”

It’s a great question, and it really depends on what the goals of the client are.

If your goal is to lose body fat, long duration, low-intensity cardio may not be the best option.  It can be used at certain times throughout the year, but it’s probably not optimal.  Especially if your goal is to lose weight or body fat fast.

However, this leads us to another question – what are you doing “cardio” for anyway?  Are you doing it for fat/weight loss?  Or do you actually need cardiovascular training/development?

Several clients who have come into the gym lately quite simply aren’t prepared for high-intensity interval workouts.  It could be due to low work capacity, high blood pressure, a high resting heart rate, etc., but all of these factors let us know that they need some cardiac development work first and foremost, before we get into the high-intensity methods.

The bottom line here is this:  When you say cardio, you need to clearly define what your goal of said cardio is.  From there, it’s much easier to develop a plan that will help you achieve that goal.

Interested in our gym?  Not sure if it’s right for you?  We offer 14-days FREE, or 30-days for $39.  Give the gym a shot, and if it’s not for you, there’s no risk and no obligation to join.

We look forward to hearing from you!

All the best

Testimonial – Ally D.

I can’t thank Mike and Bill enough for everything they have done for me. I am not training to compete, but I am working on getting into the best shape I possibly can. After working out at IFAST for 3 months I am much stronger, I have better posture, and I have much more energy.

I have always been active and enjoy working out, but it wasn’t until I joined IFAST that I truly understood how I should be working out. Mike and Bill’s training knowledge is amazing! We are truly lucky to have such an amazing team right here in Indianapolis!!

My favorite thing about iFAST is that they don’t treat me like a girl. That may sound funny, but it is true. They push me just like they push the guys in the gym. They make sure I am challenging my body to perform the best it can.

Thanks guys! You are the best!!

Ally D.

Something up our sleeves…

Yes, here at IFAST we almost always have something up our sleeves.

Bill and I have both told you about our 14 day free trial, but for four lucky folks, we’re going to take it a lot further than that.  Here’s the deal.

We’re looking for 4 VERY MOTIVATED individuals to train.  We would prefer for them to be fat loss/body composition related clients, but we’ll look at everyone on a case-by-case basis.  If you’re interested, ask yourself if you’d agree to the following:

- Train at 7 am on M-W-F for 12 weeks straight, without missing ANY sessions (most likely May, June and July)

- Allow us to weigh you on a weekly basis

- Allow us to take your picture/video tape workouts on a daily basis

If you would agree to all of the above, we may be willing to train you ABSOLUTELY FREE for 3 months!

If you’re interested in doing this, please send us an e-mail ASAP to indyfast@gmail.com. In that e-mail, please describe any current injuries you have (or have had), what training goals you have for yourself, etc.  Basically, let us know why you want to work out, and what you expect to get out of it.

I’d love to have all of our clients in place by mid-April and ready to go, so don’t delay! I think this is going to be a very life-changing event for four lucky individuals.

Stay strong and have a great weekend!

Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training Vertical Jump Update and more

We’ve been busy here at IFAST for the last couple weeks.  Mike has returned from his speaking trip to Australia and will soon be back on Indiana time. :)   We’re glad he’s back as the influx of new members has seen several of our most popular time slots fill up.  Not to worry as we’re ready to start new early morning and early evening groups at the drop of hat.

The battle for Vertical Jump supremecy to a giant leap this past week.  Ben J. and Jim H. have been quietly working toward setting PR’s in the vertical jump test ever since Ben joined IFAST.  They were within a couple inches of each other until Jim recently hit a jump of over 32″.  Not bad for 48 year old guy. Yes, I said 48.  I bet there’s a large group of athletes out there in Indy that’d like to know how he did it.

Here’s something interesting…We were told yesterday that we were crazy for giving away free 14-day memberships to give Indianapolis and fishers athletes and fitness enthusiasts an opportunity to try out the gym and experience the difference between indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training and all the other gyms, health clubs, and personal trainers in Indianapolis.

So, I guess that makes us crazy, eh?

We get it.  We know that for most people, they don’t have the time to research who’s the best trainer, where’s the best gym, and how to get the fastest results here in Indy.  We also know that there’s nothing anyone can say or advertise that doesn’t sound like a sales pitch to get you to give up your hard earned money.  In most cases, folks are disappointed but are locked into a membership that they can’t get out of because it’s too late.

That’s why we do what we do.  We’re not going to try to sell you a membership.  We’re simply going to show you why we’re the best in all of the Indianapolis area fitness centers, gyms, or performance centers.

Do you think you’d like to give us a try at no cost and no obligation?  Take this little self-test first:

1. Do you try to park as close to the front door as you can so you can walk on the treadmill at the gym for 30 minutes while watching TV?

2.  Do you like to train alone in total solitude without your own group of friends supporting your efforts to improve your performance or lose weight?

3.  Do you try to avoid working with the top trainers in the city who are well-known on a national and international scale for getting results?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you need to go somewhere else.

We don’t have treadmills and TV’s.  You’ll train with your very own support group of people just like you working to achieve their fitness and sports training goals.  And yes, we’ll prove to you that we’re the best….for free.

Call 578-0998 to set up your assessment.

Friday Updates

Here are some I-FAST updates from this week – it’s been another good one here at the gym!

-  We have several new distance clients starting up in the next couple of weeks.  While it’s not as effective as in-person training, getting evaluated in-person and then getting an individualized program can cure a lot of ills.  We can figure what’s going on, what we need to work on, and even set aside some training time to determine where you need to improve technically.  One of our new clients actually resides in Osaka, Japan!  Very cool.

-  The bash brothers (Lance and Kyle) told me this past week they’re going to do their first powerlifting meet in April.  I told them I would take care of the handling, as long as they are ready to take care of the big lifts!  I can’t wait to put some cast wraps on their little knees…. ;)

-  Our morning fat loss crew is continuing to build momentum.  CT told me he dropped another 6 pounds this week!  While he’s definitely cranking up his lifting intensity, he’s done a great job of watching his portion sizes.  I’m not positive, but I think he told me that was 22 pounds in 8 weeks.  Great job man!

-  We still have openings for the January 24th kettlebell seminar with Brett Jones.  We’ll be covering the basic KB lifts like swings, snatches, windmills and Turkish get-ups.  Cost for gym members is $125, non-gym members is $175.  If you’re interested in attending, drop us a line at indyfast@gmail.com and we’ll send you the registration info.

That’s it for now – have a great weekend!

Stay strong
