Dedication and Focus

I’m really trying hard to not be a crotchety old man.

You know, the guy who relives his glory days and talks about how all the kids of today are punks.  But honestly, there are some times when I do feel that way.  I guess it comes with the territory – I am 30 now!

I’m constantly reminded, however, how great some of the kids are that come into IFAST.  On Saturday, we have two outstanding young men who travel anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to train here.  They’re discplined, focused, and they work their butts off each and every time they come in.  Quite simply, they make our job really easy, and I’m sure they’re going to see the results pay off in the form of better on-field performance and a decreased likelihood of injury.

Yesterday, I was reminded of this again.  Two of our clients are college age kids, and they’re getting into the sport of powerlifting.  Now I know these two – they are notorious for sleeping to ridiculous hours in the day, so when I told them I was training at 10 am on a Sunday I figured there was no way they were going to make it.

Boy, did they prove me wrong!

Not only did they show up on time, but they trained extremely hard as well.  I think I even felt a little bad – the LAST thing I was worried about when I was 19 was getting up to hit a training session Sunday morning.  And here these guys were busting their butts first thing in the morning.

The more I’m around these two the more I like them; they both go to school full-time, have jobs, and they train hard when they come in the gym.  I couldn’t really ask for more.

If you want to come in and see for yourself what the gym is like, give us a call at 317.578.0998 to set-up a time to meet with Bill, myself, or even Nick the Intern.  We’d love the opportunity to show you why our clients consistently get results.

Friday Updates

Here are some I-FAST updates from this week – it’s been another good one here at the gym!

-  We have several new distance clients starting up in the next couple of weeks.  While it’s not as effective as in-person training, getting evaluated in-person and then getting an individualized program can cure a lot of ills.  We can figure what’s going on, what we need to work on, and even set aside some training time to determine where you need to improve technically.  One of our new clients actually resides in Osaka, Japan!  Very cool.

-  The bash brothers (Lance and Kyle) told me this past week they’re going to do their first powerlifting meet in April.  I told them I would take care of the handling, as long as they are ready to take care of the big lifts!  I can’t wait to put some cast wraps on their little knees…. ;)

-  Our morning fat loss crew is continuing to build momentum.  CT told me he dropped another 6 pounds this week!  While he’s definitely cranking up his lifting intensity, he’s done a great job of watching his portion sizes.  I’m not positive, but I think he told me that was 22 pounds in 8 weeks.  Great job man!

-  We still have openings for the January 24th kettlebell seminar with Brett Jones.  We’ll be covering the basic KB lifts like swings, snatches, windmills and Turkish get-ups.  Cost for gym members is $125, non-gym members is $175.  If you’re interested in attending, drop us a line at indyfast@gmail.com and we’ll send you the registration info.

That’s it for now – have a great weekend!

Fox 59 Fitness Segment coming next Monday!

It’s been a few weeks in the making, but Fox 59 will be doing a live shoot from IFAST (Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training) this coming Monday, December 15th!

In this segment, we’re going to discuss some of the non-traditional forms of cardio we do here at IFAST.  As well, we’ll discuss how we’re different from the competition – in this case, we’ll talk assessments, individualized routines, and obviously training ;)

Unfortunately, the segment is only about 3.5 minutes long, so it will go really fast!  Regardless, we’re excited to show the greater Indianapolis area who we are and what we’re doing here.  Obviously, we think we have a lot to offer – but it doesn’t matter if no one knows about you!

Be sure to check us out Monday morning at 8:50 on Fox 59 – it should be great!
