Testimonial – Ally D.

I can’t thank Mike and Bill enough for everything they have done for me. I am not training to compete, but I am working on getting into the best shape I possibly can. After working out at IFAST for 3 months I am much stronger, I have better posture, and I have much more energy.

I have always been active and enjoy working out, but it wasn’t until I joined IFAST that I truly understood how I should be working out. Mike and Bill’s training knowledge is amazing! We are truly lucky to have such an amazing team right here in Indianapolis!!

My favorite thing about iFAST is that they don’t treat me like a girl. That may sound funny, but it is true. They push me just like they push the guys in the gym. They make sure I am challenging my body to perform the best it can.

Thanks guys! You are the best!!

Ally D.

Something up our sleeves…

Yes, here at IFAST we almost always have something up our sleeves.

Bill and I have both told you about our 14 day free trial, but for four lucky folks, we’re going to take it a lot further than that.  Here’s the deal.

We’re looking for 4 VERY MOTIVATED individuals to train.  We would prefer for them to be fat loss/body composition related clients, but we’ll look at everyone on a case-by-case basis.  If you’re interested, ask yourself if you’d agree to the following:

- Train at 7 am on M-W-F for 12 weeks straight, without missing ANY sessions (most likely May, June and July)

- Allow us to weigh you on a weekly basis

- Allow us to take your picture/video tape workouts on a daily basis

If you would agree to all of the above, we may be willing to train you ABSOLUTELY FREE for 3 months!

If you’re interested in doing this, please send us an e-mail ASAP to indyfast@gmail.com. In that e-mail, please describe any current injuries you have (or have had), what training goals you have for yourself, etc.  Basically, let us know why you want to work out, and what you expect to get out of it.

I’d love to have all of our clients in place by mid-April and ready to go, so don’t delay! I think this is going to be a very life-changing event for four lucky individuals.

Stay strong and have a great weekend!

Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training Vertical Jump Update and more

We’ve been busy here at IFAST for the last couple weeks.  Mike has returned from his speaking trip to Australia and will soon be back on Indiana time. :)   We’re glad he’s back as the influx of new members has seen several of our most popular time slots fill up.  Not to worry as we’re ready to start new early morning and early evening groups at the drop of hat.

The battle for Vertical Jump supremecy to a giant leap this past week.  Ben J. and Jim H. have been quietly working toward setting PR’s in the vertical jump test ever since Ben joined IFAST.  They were within a couple inches of each other until Jim recently hit a jump of over 32″.  Not bad for 48 year old guy. Yes, I said 48.  I bet there’s a large group of athletes out there in Indy that’d like to know how he did it.

Here’s something interesting…We were told yesterday that we were crazy for giving away free 14-day memberships to give Indianapolis and fishers athletes and fitness enthusiasts an opportunity to try out the gym and experience the difference between indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training and all the other gyms, health clubs, and personal trainers in Indianapolis.

So, I guess that makes us crazy, eh?

We get it.  We know that for most people, they don’t have the time to research who’s the best trainer, where’s the best gym, and how to get the fastest results here in Indy.  We also know that there’s nothing anyone can say or advertise that doesn’t sound like a sales pitch to get you to give up your hard earned money.  In most cases, folks are disappointed but are locked into a membership that they can’t get out of because it’s too late.

That’s why we do what we do.  We’re not going to try to sell you a membership.  We’re simply going to show you why we’re the best in all of the Indianapolis area fitness centers, gyms, or performance centers.

Do you think you’d like to give us a try at no cost and no obligation?  Take this little self-test first:

1. Do you try to park as close to the front door as you can so you can walk on the treadmill at the gym for 30 minutes while watching TV?

2.  Do you like to train alone in total solitude without your own group of friends supporting your efforts to improve your performance or lose weight?

3.  Do you try to avoid working with the top trainers in the city who are well-known on a national and international scale for getting results?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you need to go somewhere else.

We don’t have treadmills and TV’s.  You’ll train with your very own support group of people just like you working to achieve their fitness and sports training goals.  And yes, we’ll prove to you that we’re the best….for free.

Indianapolis Sports Performance Training

We always talk about the atmosphere we have created at Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training.  It’s one of diversity among our clients and one of support.  I really like it because it keeps us interested as sport performance coaches and fitness trainers, but the interesting thing is to watch the interaction between athletes of different sports and fat loss program clients and how well they get along and share information.

For example, in one week, here’s a short list of the different sports that we work with in the gym:

Professional MMA fighting
Martial Arts
Olympic Bob Sled
Baseball
Women’s Collegiate softball
Professional Golf
Wrestling
Football
Soccer
Olympic Weightlifting

So this poses a common question.  How can you effectively work with so many different sports effectively?

Mike Robertson and I do this with a few simple tools.

The first is a sport analysis.  This is quite simply an identification of what an athlete needs to be able to do to perform at their best in any particular sport.  We break the abilities of a particular sport down based on sport-specific flexibility, strength, power, agility, speed, and endurance.  In essence, we create what the perfect athlete for a particular sport or position would look like.

Then we perform an individual needs analysis.  After performing our extensive individualized assessment on an athlete, we determine what abilities the athlete needs to improve to raise his or her physical potential to a level necessary for top level performance.

The important thing to remember is that just because two athletes may play the same sport or even the same position, their needs to reach peak sports performance may be different.  Therefore, their programs must be individualized.  Some athletes may have sufficient sport-specific speed or endurance but lack strength.  Some may already have sufficient sport-specific strength but lack agility or the power necessary to play at their best.

Certainly, there are commonalities among athletes and among sports, but expecting to achieve top performance by taking part in large group classes of generalized agility drills or by having everyone perform the same exercise program just isn’t possible.

To overcome this at Indianapolis Sports and Fitness Training, we work in teams of no more that four athletes or fitness clients with their own coach.  This allows for a great deal of individualized attention and creates an environment of support in a team atmosphere.  Each client gets an individualized sport-specific program designed to address his or her needs to achieve their goals in shortest time possible.

Remember we’re the only gym in Indy that let’s you become a member for free for a full 14 days which includes a complete fitness assessment, individualized sport-specific program, and six training sessions with your coach.

Bill

Distance training and consultations

Bill and I had the pleasure of working with a distance client the past two days from New York.  Needless to say, it’s always a pleasure for people to travel with the intent of working with you!  We got several sessions in, including two training sessions with myself and a full assessment from Bill.  We’ll be doing some programming work in the future as well.

The thing I really liked about this was the fact that we actually got to work the client IN PERSON.  Now there’s nothing wrong with training clients remotely; in fact, Bill has clients in Bulgaria and I have a client in Japan!  Needless to say, it’s challenging to assess them (unless, of course, they have a lot of frequent flier miles they’re looking to burn!)

When you work with a distance client the primary component you lack in their training is on-the-spot cuing.  Sure, you can video tape the workouts, but you can’t give that cue on the spot that will improve their performance.  You can’t manually muscle test them to determine what structures are strong or weak.  The bottom line is it’s just not optimal.

Regardless, working with someone remotely is far better than just hanging and banging in the weight room for years on end.  If you have the opportunity, find a qualified trainer and let them assess you, designing a routine that’s geared towards your specific needs and goals.  Wheter you want to shed some excess body fat or get some sport-specific training, a quality trainer can take your health and performance to the next level.

Stay strong
