Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training Success Updates

It’s a busy week this week at Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training as usual.

It seems that word is getting around Indy that IFAST is the place to get results.  We’re starting more new clients each week.

Here’s a few highlights:

Garrett D. has been with us for just 2 weeks and he’s lost 14 pounds and shows no signs of slowing down.

Bob J., who was told to stop exercising by doctors because of a several decades of lower back pain, is practically pain-free and is now more active than anyone expected and leading by example in training his group of young wrestlers.

Alonia C. won her first figure competition (on her first try no less) and has just started to prepare to take her second title in about 12 weeks.

Aaron C. has begun is weightlifting (the Olympic kind) training here at IFAST.  In talking to him after his training session tonight, he commented “how could anyone not fit in here.  This is obviously the place for serious people to get results.”

I think he’s right.  Of course we agree, but we’re biased here at IFAST.  If you haven’t been here and experienced the atmosphere that leads to success in whatever your fitness training, weight loss, or sports performance goals may be, you won’t understand.

That’s why we always make it easy for you.

You get to experience IFAST for free.  You’ll be treated like a member from day one.  That includes your complete functional assessment, your personalized training program geared toward achieving your goals, and six free coaching sessions.  No one in the Indianapolis fitness industry can match our offer or our results.

We’ll prove it to you for free.  Call 578-0998 to set up your free assessment.

The Three Pillars

So I’ve got an admission to make – I watch the Biggest Loser.

It’s not so much for the heartwarming stories and pop psychology, though.  I watch it because I know my clients watch it.  And I want to know what’s going in to their minds regarding strength training, fat loss, etc.

Normally,  I cringe every time I watch a training session.  Last week, however, Jillian Michaels made a great point – that sometimes people can get overtrained.  The key in any good training program, then, is balance.

There are essentially three pillars to all good training programs – training, nutrition and recovery.  Training gets the most exposure, as it’s the most easily controlled over the three.  Many people inherently know that if they want to get in better shape, they better start working out!

Nutrition has come a long way in the last 5-10 years.  Gone are the days of high carb diets (think rice cakes and fat-free everything), as are the days of truly low or no carb diets (’cause bacon goes with everything!)  Balance in your diet/nutrition is important as well.

Where many people miss the boat, however, is recovery.  Recovery should be simple – get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night, stretch in between workouts, foam roll, etc.  But how many people actually do these things? Many people are shocked at how much better they feel, and how much harder they can train, when they simple get enough sleep.  It sounds simple (and it is!), but it makes a profound difference.

If you really want to maximize your fat loss or sport-specific training goals, you absolutely MUST balance training, nutrition and recovery.  Make it a goal for the next 4 weeks to focus on recovering as hard as you train – I’ll be interested to hear how you do!

A Proud Moment

Last night, one of our new clients was telling us about his experience at a local gym.

One thing we always try to do with our clients is educate them.  WHY they’re doing a specific exercise.  HOW to do it correctly.  You know, the little things ;)

So as our client was doing his workout at the gym, and a few minutes later he notices one of the trainers taking his clients through the EXACT SAME EXERCISE he was just doing!  Now if this was a squat, lunge or bench press it wouldn’t be that interesting; but this was a very specific exercise that not many trainers would recognize or know how to coach.

The worst part, though?  This trainer had them doing the exericse completely wrong!  Our client actually went over and told the trainer his clients were doing the exercise incorrectly!

After thinking about it for a little while, I feel like many of our clients could probably give the average trainer a run for the money.

So who do you really want training you – an expert in the field, or someone who does this to fill up free time or make some extra cash?

The choice is yours.  Have a great St. Paddy’s day!
