Happy New Year from Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training

We just want to thank all of our members for a great first 5 months.

We thank you for your attention and your amazing efforts.

The progress that you’ve all made in the last few months has been inspiring.  It’s like having a new success story every day we come in.

We just found out today that the 6 a.m. weight loss group will have a new member joining them next week.  There’s no doubt that she’ll benefit from their weight loss experience and their support.

It’s been interesting how our reach has extended beyond the Indianapolis personal training realm.  We’ve had as many as 4 clients from California, 2 from North Dakota, one from New York, one from Florida, and even one from Japan!

When we designed Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training (IFAST), we envisioned what would be the most effective fitness training facility in Indianapolis for the serious fitness enthusiasts, weight loss clients, and competitive athletes.  We wanted to be able to implement the best weight loss programs and the best sports training programs available.  Based on the results we’re seeing with our clients, it’s obvious that we’re achieving that goal.

No where else will you be able to see such a variety of people exercising in the same gym with such great success.

In just the last 2 weeks, in addition to our weight loss programs, we’ve implemented training for martial artists and mixed martial artists, Olympic bob sled, soccer programs, tennis programs, golf programs, hockey programs, baseball programs, college football programs, and powerlifting programs.

You’ve made the atmophere here at IFAST the most supportive and goal-oriented in Indianapolis.

It’s a pleasure and an honor to share in your successes and we look forward to an even greater 2009.

How to Beat the Holiday Weight Gain

Many folks are ever fearful of the dreaded holiday weight gain.

Tempted by all the holiday goodies not to mention the endless family get-togethers and parties, it can be a challenging time for our weight loss clients at Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training (IFAST).

Let me provide you with a unique strategy.

Don’t worry about it.

Do you really think one or two days of treats and celebration with those close to you can derail your efforts?  I doubt it.

If anything, use the holidays to strengthen your resolve.

Take total control of your weight loss and create a holiday eating plan.  Stick your regular eating plan and continue to exercise, but be sure to include planned periods of “free eating”.  This is not to give you permission for a food-based free-for-all.  It just allows you short periods of relaxation with family where you can enjoy your time with them without other concerns.

Here’s a couple extra tricks you can use:

Do an extended version of your workout prior to the big family meal.  It can limit the damage from eating a few treats.

Focus on eating smaller portions of your favorite “cheat foods”.

If you do overeat, get back on the program the very next day.  Don’t fall into the “well I ruined my program yesterday, so why not do it again today” attitude.

Enjoy your holiday season to the fullest.

Friday Updates

Here are some I-FAST updates from this week – it’s been another good one here at the gym!

-  We have several new distance clients starting up in the next couple of weeks.  While it’s not as effective as in-person training, getting evaluated in-person and then getting an individualized program can cure a lot of ills.  We can figure what’s going on, what we need to work on, and even set aside some training time to determine where you need to improve technically.  One of our new clients actually resides in Osaka, Japan!  Very cool.

-  The bash brothers (Lance and Kyle) told me this past week they’re going to do their first powerlifting meet in April.  I told them I would take care of the handling, as long as they are ready to take care of the big lifts!  I can’t wait to put some cast wraps on their little knees…. ;)

-  Our morning fat loss crew is continuing to build momentum.  CT told me he dropped another 6 pounds this week!  While he’s definitely cranking up his lifting intensity, he’s done a great job of watching his portion sizes.  I’m not positive, but I think he told me that was 22 pounds in 8 weeks.  Great job man!

-  We still have openings for the January 24th kettlebell seminar with Brett Jones.  We’ll be covering the basic KB lifts like swings, snatches, windmills and Turkish get-ups.  Cost for gym members is $125, non-gym members is $175.  If you’re interested in attending, drop us a line at indyfast@gmail.com and we’ll send you the registration info.

That’s it for now – have a great weekend!

Aerobic exercise for fat loss?

We don’t have treadmills or TV’s at Indianapolis Fitness and Sports Training (IFAST).

When our clients come to us for a weight loss program (actually, they want to lose body fat…muscle is the good stuff we want to keep), many are surprised that we don’t do a lot of LSD.  No, not the drug, but rather Long Slow Distance.

Most folks have been programmed by the popular media and many “fitness professionals” that the best fat loss program that promises faster fat loss is to hop on the treadmill and go for 30-60 minutes at a time.  That’s why when you go to most gyms, health clubs, fitness centers, or whatever, you’ll see that the treadmill, elipticals, and bikes outnumber all the other equipment combined.  You’ll also see a lot of frustrated fitness folks on the treadmills just trying to lose a few pounds.  Check back with them in a month or so, and you’ll see that they’re doing the same thing they were last month and nothing has changed.  Not a pound of difference from their expert recommended weight loss program.

Science and experience show that this is not the best fat loss programming.  Not by a long shot.

In direct comparison, alternating periods of higher intensity (greater effort) with periods of lower intensity are far superior to promoting fat loss than LSD.  This is called interval training.

Fact is that you’ll spend less time performing interval training for fat loss that you ever will doing LSD aerobic exercise AND lose more fat in the process.

I was talking with one of the 6 a.m. group yesterday, Chris T.  He reported that he lost 4 pounds last week alone on his personalize fat loss program that we designed for him.  How’d you do last week with your weight loss program?

Do you want to see how fast you can reach your fat loss goal?  Do you want to see how we help our clients lose more fat faster than anyone in the city without TV’s and treadmills?

Call us now at 578-0998 and we’ll treat you like a member and show you FREE for 2 weeks just to prove it.
